Sight words are the most common words in English — "the", "and", "is", "can", "see", "I", "a". Learning to recognize them instantly (on sight, without sounding out) is one of the most important steps in early reading. The best way to practice? Reading them in real stories.

Level A Stories — First Sight Words

These stories use the simplest Dolch sight words: I, see, the, a, my, is, can, go, like, and.

  1. I See Colors — "I see..." pattern. Core sight words: I, see, the.
  2. I Can Go — "I can..." pattern. Core: I, can, go, to.
  3. I Can Help — "I can help..." Core: I, can, help, the.
  4. Food I Like — "I like..." Core: I, like, the, a.
  5. My Dog Spot — "My dog..." Core: my, is, the, and.

Level B Stories — Building Sight Word Vocabulary

Adds: he, she, we, they, was, are, have, with, this, that, what, where.

  1. Where Is My Hat? — question words: where, is, my.
  2. What Can You See? — question pattern: what, can, you, see.
  3. Morning Helpers — action words: we, can, help.
  4. Getting Dressed — daily routine: I, put, on, my.
