Sammy the squirrel was a little, brown squirrel with a big, bushy tail. He lived in a cozy, warm nest high up in an old oak tree. He was a very happy squirrel. He had a big pile of yummy nuts to eat. But Sammy was also a little bit bored. 'I eat the same nuts every day,' he said to his reflection in a puddle. 'I see the same trees every day. I want to have a big adventure!' He wanted to see what was at the edge of the forest. His mother always said, 'Stay close, Sammy. The forest is big.' But today, Sammy was feeling very brave.

Sammy packed one perfect, yummy acorn in a little leaf bag. 'I am going on an adventure!' he whispered. He waved goodbye to his nest and scampered down the tree. He ran past the big, mossy log. He ran past the patch of red flowers. He kept running and running, faster than ever, until the trees looked new. He was in a part of the forest he had never, ever seen before. 'Wow!' he chattered, his little heart beating fast. 'This is an adventure!' He felt so brave.

Suddenly, he heard a new sound. 'Splash! Ripple!' He peeked through some tall grass and his eyes got big. It was a river! It was so big and blue and sparkly. He had never seen water so big. 'It is like a giant, moving puddle!' he gasped. Sitting on a big, green lily pad was a friendly, green frog. 'Ribbit! Hello!' croaked the frog. 'You look new here.' 'I am new!' said Sammy. 'I am on a big adventure! But how do I get to the other side?' The frog smiled. 'I can show you. Just hop on the stones. Hop, hop, hop!'

Sammy was a little scared, but he was brave. He wiggled his bushy tail and... HOP! He landed on the first stone. HOP! He landed on the second. He was doing it! He hopped all the way across the big, blue river. 'I did it!' he cheered. The frog croaked, 'Good job! Over here is the best adventure treat.' He showed Sammy a bush full of the biggest, sweetest, reddest berries Sammy had ever seen. They were much sweeter than his old nuts. Sammy ate the yummy berries and knew his adventure was a big success. He went home and told his whole family about the big, sparkly river and the sweet, red berries.
