Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, a beautiful baby princess was born. Her parents, the king and queen, were overjoyed. They had waited for many years to have a child, and now their dreams had come true. The baby had golden hair, rosy cheeks, and bright blue eyes that sparkled like sapphires. They named her Aurora, which means 'dawn,' because she brought light and joy into their lives. To celebrate her birth, the king and queen threw a grand celebration. People from all over the kingdom came to see the new princess and bring gifts. The castle was decorated with flowers, banners, and twinkling lights.
Three good fairies were invited to the celebration. Their names were Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. Flora wore a red dress and was kind and gentle. Fauna wore a green dress and loved all animals. Merryweather wore a blue dress and was a little bit stubborn, but very loyal. Each fairy was given the honor of bestowing a magical gift upon the baby princess. Flora stepped forward first. She waved her wand, and sparkling magic dust floated down over the baby's cradle. 'My gift to you, dear Aurora,' Flora said, 'is the gift of beauty. You will grow to be the most beautiful princess in all the land.' The king and queen smiled and thanked her.
Next, Fauna stepped forward. She waved her wand, and more magic sparkles appeared. 'My gift to you, sweet child,' Fauna said, 'is the gift of song. You will have the voice of a nightingale, and all who hear you sing will be filled with joy.' The baby cooed happily, and everyone clapped. Now it was Merryweather's turn. But just as she raised her wand to give her gift, the doors to the grand hall burst open with a loud BANG. A cold wind swept through the room, and the candles flickered. Everyone gasped and turned to see who had arrived. It was the evil fairy, Maleficent.
Maleficent was tall and thin, with pale green skin, sharp cheekbones, and eyes that glowed like yellow flames. She wore a long black robe and carried a staff with a glowing green orb on top. A black raven sat on her shoulder. She swept into the room, and everyone stepped back in fear. 'Well, well,' Maleficent said in a cold, mocking voice. 'What a lovely celebration. And to think, I was not invited.' The king stepped forward. 'You were not welcome here, Maleficent,' he said firmly. Maleficent's eyes narrowed. 'Not welcome? How rude.' She walked over to the baby's cradle and looked down at Aurora with a wicked smile.
'I, too, have a gift for the child,' Maleficent said. The queen tried to stop her, but the king held her back. There was nothing they could do. Maleficent raised her staff, and a dark green light filled the room. 'Listen well, all of you,' she said. 'The princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty. But before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel—and die!' The queen screamed. The king shouted, 'No!' But Maleficent just laughed—a cruel, echoing laugh—and vanished in a burst of green flames and smoke. The room was silent. Everyone was in shock. The king and queen held their baby close, weeping.
But Merryweather stepped forward. 'Wait,' she said. 'I still have my gift to give. I cannot undo Maleficent's curse, but I can soften it.' She waved her wand over the baby, and soft blue sparkles surrounded Aurora. 'My gift to you, dear princess,' Merryweather said gently, 'is this: you will not die. Instead, you will fall into a deep sleep. And this sleep can be broken—by true love's kiss.' It was not a perfect solution, but it gave everyone hope. The king, however, was still determined to protect his daughter. He ordered that every spinning wheel in the kingdom be burned. Soldiers went from house to house, collecting and destroying every single one.
But the three good fairies knew that would not be enough. 'Maleficent is powerful and cunning,' Flora said. 'She will find a way. The only way to keep Aurora truly safe is to hide her.' Fauna nodded. 'We can take her to a hidden cottage deep in the forest. We will raise her there in secret until her sixteenth birthday has passed. Then the curse will be broken.' The king and queen were heartbroken, but they knew the fairies were right. With heavy hearts, they handed their baby to the fairies. 'Please, keep her safe,' the queen whispered. 'We will,' Flora promised. And so, under the cover of night, the three fairies carried baby Aurora far away from the castle.
They found a small, cozy cottage deep in the forest, far from any roads or villages. They decided to disguise themselves as peasant women and raise Aurora as if she were their own niece. They changed her name to Briar Rose, so no one would know who she really was. To keep her even safer, the fairies gave up their magic. They put away their wands and decided to live like ordinary humans. 'No magic,' Flora said firmly. 'If we use magic, Maleficent might sense it and find us.' It was hard for the fairies to live without magic, but they did it for Aurora. They cooked, cleaned, sewed, and took care of the cottage and the little girl. Aurora grew up happy and loved.
The years passed, and Aurora grew into a kind, beautiful, and joyful young woman. She had no idea she was a princess. She believed she was just an ordinary girl living in the forest with her three aunts. She loved to explore the woods, pick berries, sing with the birds, and dance among the trees. The animals of the forest adored her. Rabbits, squirrels, deer, and birds would gather around whenever she sang. Her voice was as beautiful as Fauna's gift had promised. On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Aurora woke up feeling especially happy. 'Today is my birthday!' she thought. She ran downstairs, but her three aunts looked worried.
'Briar Rose,' Flora said, 'we need you to go pick berries for a special surprise. Take your time, dear.' Aurora smiled. 'Alright! I will gather the biggest, juiciest berries I can find!' She put on her cloak and skipped into the forest, humming a tune. Meanwhile, back at the cottage, the fairies decided to break their rule. 'Just this once,' Merryweather said, 'we can use magic to bake a cake and sew a beautiful dress for her birthday.' They took out their wands, which they had hidden away for sixteen years. But they were very rusty. Flora tried to bake a cake, but it kept collapsing. Fauna tried to sew a dress, but it looked like a lumpy sack. They ended up making a big mess.
Meanwhile, Aurora was in the forest, singing a beautiful song about dreaming of true love. She sang about a prince she had seen in her dreams, though she had never met him in real life. As she sang, a handsome young man heard her voice. He was riding through the forest on his horse. 'What a beautiful voice,' he said. He followed the sound and saw Aurora dancing with the animals. He was captivated. He quietly joined her, and they began to dance together. Aurora was surprised but not afraid. She felt like she had known him forever. 'Who are you?' she asked, laughing. 'I am...' he paused. 'Just a traveler. And who are you?' 'I am Briar Rose,' she said. They danced and talked, and both felt something magical between them.
But Aurora suddenly remembered her aunts. 'I have to go,' she said. 'But will I see you again?' The young man smiled. 'Yes. Meet me here tonight.' Aurora's heart fluttered as she ran back to the cottage. She could not stop thinking about him. What she did not know was that the young man was actually Prince Phillip, the son of a neighboring king. Years ago, when Aurora was a baby, the two kingdoms had arranged for Phillip and Aurora to be married when they grew up. But neither of them knew this. When Aurora returned to the cottage, the fairies were waiting for her. They looked serious. 'Briar Rose,' Flora said gently, 'we have something to tell you. You are not who you think you are. You are a princess.'
Aurora was confused. 'A princess? But how?' The fairies explained everything—the curse, Maleficent, and why they had hidden her. 'Tonight, we must return you to the castle,' Fauna said. 'Your sixteenth birthday will end at sunset, and you will finally be safe.' Aurora felt like her whole world was crumbling. 'But... but I met someone today,' she said, tears filling her eyes. 'I was supposed to see him again tonight.' Merryweather hugged her. 'I am sorry, dear. But you are a princess. You are already betrothed to a prince.' Aurora's heart broke. She began to cry. The fairies led her through the forest and back to the castle. Aurora felt numb. Her life had changed in an instant.
When they arrived at the castle, the fairies led Aurora up to a quiet room to rest. 'We will prepare for your return,' Flora said. But as soon as the fairies left, a strange green glow appeared in the fireplace. Aurora, still dazed and heartbroken, stood up and walked toward it as if in a trance. The glow formed into a glowing, spinning wheel. Maleficent's voice echoed softly. 'Touch the spindle. Touch it, I say.' Aurora reached out her hand. The fairies suddenly realized what was happening and ran back. 'NO!' they shouted. But it was too late. Aurora's finger touched the sharp spindle. She gasped, and her eyes closed. She fell to the floor in a deep, deep sleep.
The fairies wept. They gently carried Aurora to her bed and laid her down. Merryweather covered her with a soft blanket. 'What do we do now?' Fauna asked. Flora thought for a moment. 'We must find the young man she met in the forest. If he truly loves her, his kiss can break the spell.' But then they realized—he was Prince Phillip! 'We must find him!' They used their magic to search, but they discovered something terrible. Maleficent had captured Prince Phillip and locked him in her dark, cold dungeon. 'You will never escape,' Maleficent taunted him. But the fairies were clever. They snuck into the dungeon, freed Phillip, and gave him a magic sword and shield. 'Go!' Flora said. 'You must break the curse!'
Prince Phillip rode as fast as he could toward the castle. But Maleficent was not going to let him reach Aurora. She used her dark magic to surround the castle with a forest of thorns—thick, twisted, and sharp. 'You will never get through!' she cackled. But Phillip did not give up. He slashed through the thorns with his sword. When he finally broke through, Maleficent was waiting. She transformed into a giant, terrifying dragon with black scales, glowing yellow eyes, and fire-breathing jaws. 'Now you will deal with me!' she roared. Phillip fought bravely. With the fairies' help, he threw his sword, and it struck the dragon's heart. Maleficent let out a terrible scream and vanished in a cloud of smoke.
Phillip ran into the castle and up to the tower where Aurora lay sleeping. She looked so peaceful, as if she were only dreaming. He knelt beside her and gently kissed her lips. Aurora's eyes fluttered open. She looked up and smiled. 'I was dreaming about you,' she whispered. Phillip smiled. 'And now you are awake.' Throughout the castle, everyone else began to wake up too. The curse was broken. The king and queen rushed to their daughter and embraced her. There was joy and celebration throughout the land. Aurora and Phillip were married, and they ruled the kingdom with kindness and love. And they all lived happily ever after. Sleep well, little one. The end.
