Once upon a time, there was a sweet little girl everyone called Little Red. She wore a beautiful red cape that her grandmother made her. One day, her mother packed a basket of food. 'Your grandmother is feeling sick,' she said. 'Please take this to her. Stay on the safe path in the woods, and do not talk to strangers.' Little Red promised she would. She was a kind girl and loved her grandmother. She skipped down the path into the big, green woods, holding her basket tight.

Little Red skipped along the safe path. The birds were singing, and the sun was warm. Soon, she saw some beautiful, bright flowers. 'Oh, Grandmother would love these!' she thought. She forgot her mother's words and stepped off the path to pick them. Deeper in the woods, she met a big, tricky wolf. 'Good morning, little girl,' the wolf said in a sweet voice. 'Where are you going?' Little Red forgot her promise. 'I am going to my grandmother's house. She is sick,' Little Red said kindly. 'How nice!' said the tricky wolf. 'Why don't you pick more flowers?'

While Little Red was busy, the tricky wolf ran as fast as he could to Grandmother's house. He knocked. 'Who is it?' called Grandmother. 'It's me, Little Red!' the wolf said in a high, squeaky voice. 'Come in, dear,' she said. The wolf ran in! The poor grandmother was so scared, she hid in the closet and locked the door. The tricky wolf put on Grandmother's night-cap and glasses. He climbed into the bed and pulled the blanket up to his chin, waiting for Little Red.

Soon, Little Red arrived. 'Grandmother, what big ears you have!' she said. 'The better to HEAR you with,' said the wolf. 'Grandmother, what big eyes you have!' 'The better to SEE you with,' said the wolf. 'But Grandmother, what big teeth you have!' 'The better to... YUM YUM!' shouted the wolf, jumping up! Little Red screamed, 'HELP!' Just then, a kind, strong woodsman who was working nearby heard her. He ran inside! The wolf was a coward. He saw the big, strong woodsman and got so scared, he ran out the door and never, ever came back. Grandmother came out of the closet, safe and sound. Little Red hugged her and promised to always stay on the path.
