Ms. Rivera announced that the second-grade class would be putting on a play called The Enchanted Garden. Everyone could try out for a part. Sofia wanted to be the lead flower more than anything.
Sofia practiced her lines every day after school. She stood in front of the mirror and said them over and over until she knew every word by heart.
On the day of tryouts, Sofia was very nervous. Her hands were shaking and her voice was quiet at first. But then she took a deep breath and spoke loud and clear.
The next morning, Ms. Rivera posted the list. Sofia got the lead part! She was so excited she jumped up and down. Her best friend Mia got the part of the butterfly.
For two weeks, the class rehearsed after school. They made costumes out of fabric and cardboard. Sofia's flower costume had big pink petals and green leaves.
On the night of the play, the auditorium was packed with families. Sofia peeked through the curtain and saw her mom, dad, and grandma in the front row.
When it was her turn, Sofia walked onto the stage. The spotlight was bright and warm. She spoke her lines perfectly, and the audience laughed and clapped at all the right moments.
After the show, everyone got flowers and hugs. A flower got flowers! joked Sofia's dad. Sofia hugged Ms. Rivera and said, Thank you for believing in me. It was a night she would always remember.
