Coach Wu gave the class a challenge for the last day of gym class before summer. They would design their own obstacle course using equipment from the gym storage room.

Groups of four had thirty minutes to plan and set up their course. Then every team would run every course and vote on which one they liked best.

Ana's group built a course with jumping, crawling through a tunnel, tossing beanbags into hoops, and spinning three times before crossing the finish line.

The spinning part made everyone dizzy and giggly. More than one person went the wrong way after spinning, which caused loud laughter from the sidelines.

Another group made a balance beam walk followed by crab walking, backward jumping, and carrying a ball between their knees to the end.

Each course was harder and funnier than the last. By the end of class, everyone was out of breath, sweaty, and grinning from ear to ear.

Ana's team won the vote by a wide margin — mostly because the spinning part was so unpredictable that no two people wobbled in the same direction.

Coach Wu said this was one of his favorite class days of the year. Ana decided that gym was a lot more fun when you got to make up your own rules.
