There was a big kite contest at the beach this Saturday. Tom wanted to enter, but he did not have a kite yet.
Dad said, Let's make one ourselves! They got sticks, paper, string, and tape. They worked together in the garage.
Tom decorated his kite with a big red dragon. He drew sharp teeth and fiery eyes. This is going to be the best one, he said.
On Saturday, the beach was full of kids with colorful kites. There were kites shaped like butterflies, fish, and even rockets.
Tom held his kite up and ran along the sand. The wind caught it, and the dragon soared into the sky high above everyone.
Some kites crashed into the water. Some got tangled in each other's strings. But Tom's dragon kite flew steady and strong.
The judges picked the winners. Tom won the prize for the highest-flying kite! He got a blue ribbon and a trophy.
Tom proudly showed his trophy to Dad. We make a great team, Tom said. Dad smiled and gave him a big hug.
