Pedro got a little cactus plant for his birthday. He named it Spike.
His teacher said cactuses are easy to grow. They do not need much water.
Pedro put Spike on his windowsill where it got lots of sunlight.
He watered it a little bit once a week. Not too much, not too little.
One day, Pedro noticed a tiny bump on the side of Spike's green stem.
He asked his teacher what it was. That is a new arm growing! she said.
Pedro was so proud. He had helped Spike grow bigger and stronger.
Now Pedro wants to learn about all kinds of plants. Spike was just the beginning.
