It was a dark and stormy evening when suddenly all the lights in the house went out. The power is gone! said Dad, looking out the window. The whole street was dark.

Aiden was a little nervous. He did not like the dark very much. But his mom found some candles and soon the living room had a warm, golden glow.

Since we cannot watch TV or use our tablets, what should we do? asked Mom. Aiden's little sister Lily suggested they tell stories.

Dad went first. He told a funny story about when he was a boy and his dog ate his homework. Everyone laughed so hard their stomachs hurt.

Then Mom told a story about a magical forest where the trees could talk and the rivers sang songs. Lily's eyes got very wide as she listened.

It was Aiden's turn. He made up a story about a boy who could fly. He used different voices for all the characters, and Lily clapped at the end.

They played card games by candlelight, ate sandwiches for dinner, and sang songs together. It was one of the best evenings they ever had as a family.

When the power finally came back on, nobody wanted to turn on the TV. Can we keep the candles? asked Lily. This is more fun. And everyone agreed.
